As a curious person, I admit that I have started more projects than I've ever finished.
Failing is a taboo topic (thanks to the ego). It’s easier to brag about what you've started and launched than to talk about lessons from what has failed to take off.
I have come to realise that failure is really a blessing in disguise.
Simply put: failure is the most common thing among successful people.
Get out of your comfort zone, fail more and see your life prosper to heights you could never imagine - complacency is a real disease
Starting is Hard
You never start because of the fears and uncertainties that comes with doing something you've never done before.
Remember, to get something done in life, first you need to start.
Solution: don't wait to 'feel' ready to start, that imaginary feeling rarely and often never comes.
Getting started gets easier and less scary when you do it often and frequent enough:
- You start getting words on the page
- Ideas start flowing freely
- Self doubt disappears
- You see opportunities everywhere
As starting becomes easier, you'll realise that actually finishing is even harder.
Finishing is way Harder
The most important thing to do as a creative and entrepreneur is to ship: Ship your work, ship your product, ship your art - Seth Godin
The terror of starting turns into the fear of shipping, the love of putting in the work becomes a form of resistance behind perfectionism, and the habits of getting started become a distraction to finishing.
Before you start something new, instead of tracking what have you started but not finished (usually a lot), track what you have finished (usually not a lot).
Aim to start less but finish more.
